Why Maybe?

*Why is it ‘maybe’ Lactose free?

  1. There is a mention in the pack it ‘may contain milk solids’, this is possible if the ingredients are produced in the equipment which is also used for the manufacturing products that contain milk solids. If milk is present, traces of lactose can also be found which indicates it isn’t lactose free.
  2. The color 150d production is from carbohydrates which maybe from dairy products (lactose), hence it cannot be concluded as Lactose free until the company reveals the ingredient used for the colour production.

*Why is it ‘maybe’ a Vegan product?

  1. The color 150d production is from carbohydrates which maybe from dairy products (lactose), hence it cannot be concluded as vegan until the company reveals the ingredient used for the colour production.
  2. (This is not a big issue for many vegans as the producer did not add milk solids as an ingredient for making the product, rather it is accumulated into the food by cross contamination when food is processed in the same equipment which also processes  products that contain milk.)

*Why is it ‘maybe’ a Gluten free product?

  1. The color 150d production is from carbohydrates which maybe from starch hydrolysates (wheat starch or barley) hence it cannot be concluded as gluten free until the company reveals the ingredient used for the color production.
  2. We can see on the pack it ‘contains traces of wheat’, this is possible if the ingredients are produced in the equipment which is also used for the manufacturing products that contains wheat, wheat contains gluten in it. Hence, we can’t say it is completely free.

*Why ‘no’ in ‘treenut free’?
We can see on the pack it ‘contains traces of treenuts’, this is possible if the ingredients are produced in the equipment which is also used for the manufacturing products that contains treenuts. Hence, we can’t say it is completely free.

Why Not Mentioned?

*Why cholesterol is given as ‘not mentioned’?
The cholesterol value is not mentioned on the nutritional list. The value of cholesterol is not mandatory to be listed in the Nutritional table as per Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) regulations, 2011.[1]

*Why is it a trans fat free product?
As per FSSAI (Advertising and Claims, 2018) regulations[2], a product can be claimed as trans fat free, if the product contains less than 0.2 g of trans fat per 100 g of product.

*Why sodium is given as ‘not mentioned’?
The sodium value is not mentioned here. But, having a look at the ingredients list, there is an ingredient, which obviously contains sodium. The value of sodium is not mandatory to be listed in the Nutritional table as per Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) regulations, 2011.[3]
