Taste Experience of Sunfeast Dark Fantasy Choco Fills

Hey!!! I have come to my favourite part. Opening the pack is needed a little extra effort. First, I have to open the rectangular box. Then I have to open the small packs. Finally I can sense the biscuits.

Yay!! Let us open the pack now. Mmmm!! Mmm!! I could sense chocolate aroma. This smell makes you eat the biscuits quickly.

The biscuits are circle shaped and brown in colour, the upper surface a little bulged where the lower surface looks flat.

The biscuit is smooth on the top and bottom side. When breaking the biscuit into two halves, I could sense more chocolate aroma. And the broken sides give some roughness. The melted chocolate is not so melty as it is shown on the pack.

I am biting the biscuit only. It is crunchier and gives a good chocolatey taste. Now I am biting the whole biscuit, it gives the feel of real chocolate. The combination of biscuit and choco fills makes a delicious taste.

The mouthfeel of the biscuit is the chocolate feel that stays for a long time.

Special Design Fact

        1. Choco Crème
        2. Biscuit
Let us now know about the ingredients used for the Dark Fantasy Choco Fills production. First, the Choco Crème.

Choco Crème

Source : Sugarcane
How : From sugarcane, the juice is extracted. Then the juice is heated, filtered and purified. Then it is crystallized to produce sugar.
Why : Sugar acts as a base ingredient to give sweetness and structure to the crème. It also gives texture to the crème.

Source : Palm fruit
How : Palm oil is produced by oil extraction from the pulp of the palm fruit. The palm fruits are blanched, threshed and digested. The palm fruits are then pressed to obtain the palm oil. Obtained oil is further clarified, dried and stored. The palm oil may have undergone many processing steps such as decolourisation, deodorisation and bleaching which are the refining steps.
Why : Palm oil gives the creamy consistency and also improves the texture of the crème.

Source : Palm oil
How : Palmolein is obtained by processing the palm oil. The palm oil contains nearly fifty percent saturated and fifty percent unsaturated fat content. The unsaturated fat is separated using fractional distillation methods to produce palmolein oil.
Why : Refined palmolein oil gives glossiness to the crème and also improves the consistency of the crème.

Source : Cocoa beans
How : Cocoa beans are fermented, dried, roasted and ground to produce chocolate liquor. It has half of the finely ground cocoa solids and half of the cocoa butter. From which, the cocoa solids is separated.
Why : Cocoa solids gives the brown colour and chocolate flavour to the crème.

  • INS 322 (i)

Name : Partially Hydrolysed Lecithin
Source : Soybeans
How : Soy lecithin is a byproduct (secondary product) of soybean oil production. The obtained soy lecithin is hydrolysed partially using enzymes. Thus the partially hydrolysed lecithin is produced.
Why : Partially hydrolysed lecithin helps in preventing the fats from reacting to the oxygen, thus preventing fats from going rancid. And it helps in holding ingredients together.

Nature Identical Flavouring Substances

Flavour : Chocolate
Source : Industry
How :  The chemical structure of the nature identical flavouring resembles the chemical structure of the ‘Natural flavours’ such as a fruit. But it is completely made in industry or laboratory.
Why : Natural identical flavouring substances enhance flavour of the crème. It also improve the aroma and taste of the crème.

Artificial Flavouring Substances

Flavour : Vanilla
Source : Industry
How : Artificial flavouring substances have chemical structure which do not  resemble the chemical structure of any ‘Natural flavours’ that exist in nature and is completely made in the laboratory.
Why : Artificial flavouring substances impart flavour to the crème and thus improving the aroma and taste.

Biscuit

The biscuits are made up of the following ingredients. They are as follows:

Source : Wheat grain
How : The wheat bran is separated from wheat grain. Then the starchy white part of the wheat grain is separated from the grain by milling and then it is ground to produce refined wheat flour.
Why : Wheat flour is used as a base ingredient to prepare the biscuit. It gives structure to the Dark Fantasy Choco Fills biscuit.

The oil which hydrogenated is not mentioned on the pack and so its specific processing method cannot be determined.
Source : Industry
How : Hydrogenated vegetable oil used here is partially hydrogenated. The oil source is not mentioned here. But, let’s know… what is hydrogenation process? It is the method of passing hydrogen gas through the liquid oil in the presence of catalyst at certain temperature and pressure. It results in the desired consistency of the oil, mostly semi solid form.
Why : Hydrogenated vegetable oil gives texture and improves the brittleness of the biscuit.

Source : Sugarcane
How : From sugarcane, the juice is extracted. Then the juice is heated, filtered and purified. Then it is crystallized to produce sugar.
Why : Sugar gives sweetness to the biscuit and also improves the texture of the biscuit.

Source : Sugarcane
How : From sugarcane, sugar is produced. The production process of sugar is already explained. The invert syrup is produced by heating sugar with water and acid (mostly citric acid).

Sunfeast Dark Fantasy Choco Fills’s Packaging

This primary packaging is a tiny packaging. It is designed to store one biscuit inside. The recycle number mentioned here is 5 which is polypropylene. This is the material used for this packaging. Polypropylene is an additional polymer which gives the good impact strength to the pack.

This secondary packaging looks like a medium hard paper box containing multiple layers and rectangular in shape. It is perfectly designed with attracting colours. It holds the 6 individual packs inside. It acts as a barrier for biscuits which are present inside. The recycle number is not mentioned on the secondary pack which indicates the material used for secondary packaging.

The company illustrated a man throwing the pack into the dustbin; it means that after consuming the treat, the empty pack should be thrown into the dustbin.

We always struggle to open a pack. Don’t we? Did you see the Tear here indication? It is there to tear the pack easily. Haha!! Are we just tearing based on the indication or not?

Other Breakdowns in Sunfeast Dark Fantasy Choco Fills

Yum!! Choco fills?? Is it really chocolate as it states as ‘choco’ fills?
Here, choco represents the chocolate which is filled inside the biscuit. As per FSSAI rules a product can be called as chocolate only if it contains cocoa related products in them. Here the choco crème have cocoa solids, so this can be called as chocolate. Since they are filled inside the biscuit they are called choco fills.

How choco crème is in melted state?? Chocolates are usually solid in room conditions. Right?
Cocoa butter used in chocolates is solid at room temperature. When we eat it, it melts in mouth (melts at body temperature). As cocoa butter is not added instead, a substitute for cocoa butter, which is in a liquid state (Refined Palm oil) is added. This refined palm oil gives the melted state of the choco crème filled inside. This is the reason behind the melted state of choco crème inside the biscuit.

Is it cream or crème? what’s the difference?
As we can see they have mentioned it as crème and not as cream. A product can be called as cream only if it contains milk or milk related products (Milk solids) in them. The choco fills in this Dark Fantasy Choco Fills have no milk solids in them and so it is called as crème.

Whitish Layer over the biscuit! Is it bad for consumption?
Normally we think it is bad for consumption but the real truth is ‘It is fit’ for consumption.

  1. This happens when the chocolate inside the biscuit is exposed to high moisture, the water draws the sugar to the surface of the chocolate. The sugar content crystallises.
  2. When exposed to sunlight, the fat breaks down and moves to the surface of the chocolate.

These are the reasons for the whitish layer on the biscuit but it is fit for consumption.
