Important Images on the Pack

The brand name Pringles is mentioned below the cartoon portrayal of a smart old man with black eyes, parted brown hair and a brown moustache You know, he even has names. To know more, read interesting facts. The teeny tiny crisp above the letter ‘i’ in the brand name, demonstrates the crispiness of the crisp.

Ohh!! Look at this creativity. The crisp is presenting itself on a red-carpet stage. With all the light focused on it like a celebrity potato crisp on the stage. And also there is an illustration of a salt over a spray stand spraying salt all over the crisps.

Is that a lighting stand? No it isn’t. Salt bottle is connected to the wire. I think when charged, salt bottle sprays some salt over crisps.

Taste Experience of Pringles Original Potato Crisps

I tried the popping out cap method of opening. I don’t wanna say about my bad experience or I don’t know how to do that correctly. I give that in your hands. Kindly let me know in the comment section about your experience in popping the cap out. There is a seal to open which securely save the crisps.

The crisp delivers potato aroma, it is so tempting. And there is a sense of a salty and oily aroma too. I have big love for potato crisps, but this is the time I am bought one.

Aww!! I thought Pringles tube would be fully filled with crisps but to be noticed the crisps filled 80% of the tube space. My hand went in easily to pick the crisps but I don’t know about the adults.See how it looks, the crisps are parabolic in shape and mild yellow in colour. Most of the crisps are of uniform shape. On breaking the treat into two halves it is mild white colour in the middle.

The crisps are a little rough. The salt in the crisps surface adheres to the fingers. It is easy to break because it is very light to hold. The crisps are quite curvy and can be broken into two or three pieces.

Yay!!Come let’s have the crisps. It is designed to naturally fit between tongue and mouth. Have you noticed? When biting, it is crunchy as expected. It is slightly sour. Since it is thin it easily dissolves in mouth. Potato crisps with mild sour taste is the best one for me. I don’t know, my opinion might change in future when it comes to tasting different flavours in Pringles.

After having this Pringles orginal, mild sour taste lasts long in tongue.  It makes crave for more the taste of the salt is so alluring. I almost tell you something, one person should not consume a whole tube of Pringles. Then how much ???

Special Design Fact

The Plastic cap
The crisps are sealed with a plastic cap, we can consume the crisps and then close the cap again. This is storing the crisps easily but this is for short time because air might get through the plastic caps through the sides due to some mishandling.

The seal
The tear-off  aluminium sealing which is layered after the cap. The seal secures the aroma of treat and the slightly extended tip helps us to unseal easily from the tube. This also shows that this Pringles tube is fresh and not opened before.

Pringles Original Potato Crisps’s Ingredients

Pringles Orginal ingredients our creation 1

Amount added : 48 %
Source : Potato
How : Potatoes are cleaned, washed, sliced and dried in the ovens and these dried potatoes are ground into powder.
Why : Dried potato is the base ingredient for the Pringles.

Oil type : Palm Oil
Source : Palm Fruit.
How : The palm fruit is sterilized, threshed and subjected to a digester to obtain the pulp. Then the pulp is pressed to obtain oil. The collected oil is clarified, dried and packed.
Why : Palm oil is used to give the product its crispness and mouthfeel.

Source : Corn Grain
How : Corn is cleaned, washed, dried  and ground. The ground flour obtained is called corn flour.
Why : Corn flour is used here to give crispness to Pringles.

Source : Wheat grain
How : The endosperm part of the wheat is ground and made into flour. The water-soluble starch dissolves when the flour is mixed with water. The water in which starch is dissolved is evaporated resulting in the production of wheat starch.
Why : Wheat starch adds extra crispiness to the crisps.

In this process fat/oil is treated with glycerol and with alkaline crystals at high temperature. This results in the formation of mono and diglycerides. They are further processed to remove impurity.
Why : Mono and Diglycerides of fatty acid  is used to mix and hold the ingredients in the crisps. It improves moisture and also maintains the texture of the crispy Pringles.

Warnings on Pringles Original Potato Crisps Pack

No warning.

Pringles Original Potato Crisps’s Packaging

Anybody thought this is as tin? I did. But the truth is, this tube is made up of three layers i.e., cardboard, silver foil and LDPE. As you can see the tin like finish make us believe it is metal but you know the truth now. Obviously the packaging helps to preserve and prevents breaking of crisps. Also, reducing storage space and yet good marketing pack. You know that ‘The celebrity pack’ through my eyes.

There is an illustration of a man throwing the pack into dustbin. Hence, the consumers are requested to throw the pack into the dustbin.

Claims on Pringles Original Potato Crisps

No artificial  colours
Wow!! Great to see a product with no artificial colours. Yes, there are no artificial colours in Pringles. The colour which we see is imparted by corn flour and maltodextrin.

Other Breakdowns in Pringles Original Potato Crisps

Hey!! Did you see the shape of the smart man’s face? Doesn’t it look like an egg or a potato?
Haha!! Yes, at first I thought the same. I then later realised it was neither potato nor egg. It is a cartoonised picture of a man’s face and his name is Julius Pringles.

Pringles!! Nice name right. What’s the secret behind this name?

Well, there are multiple theories for the name Pringles. Aww!! History or more theories!

  1. The first theory is that the name Pringles came from the patent for an “apparatus for processing potatoes” and that equipment was made by Mark Pringle.
  2. The second theory is that the name came from the street name (Prinlge Drive in FinneyTown North of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) of the employees who worked in the company as it sounded good the name is kept for the product.
3.The final theory is that the name is picked randomly from Cincinatti phone book, again for the pleasing sound.

What do they mean Original? Perplexed!
The word Original means the formulation which has remained unchanged for over a period and doesn’t have any major change in ingredients. This represents that this is the first ever flavour the Pringles produced.

Did you See? It is called potato crisps and not chips. But why?
The term ‘chips’ when the snack is completely made from potatoes. Pringles are not completely made of potato. The crisps are of course made of potato but it is only 48%. The remaining ingredients like corn and wheat starch are also added to improve the crispiness. Hence it was named potato crisps instead of potato chips.

All the crisps are of the same size. Did you notice? But How?
You might have seen in many packs that chips varies in size but not crisps. In chips making, potatoes are sliced and there will be different sizes. But here, potatoes are made to mix like a dough with some other ingredients. The dough is sheeted and cut using moulds of the same size and then they are fried. Thus, the crisps are similar in size and shape.

Why is the crisps curved (parabolic shape)? Nice shapes actually. But let’s know why.
The fact behind this parabolic shape is that it’s easy for us to pick the crisp from the pack. It also helps in easy stacking of the crisps and requires less space than uneven shapes. This unique shape adds strength to the crisps also a good marketing. Everybody loves same size crisps. If not, please leave a comment and let me know.

Did you see the name Pringles printed all over the top seal? Why is it printed?
Mhmm!! Yes!! It subconsciously enters our mind and this plays a good branding purpose. But you know the seal is the one that keeps the crisps fresh. It might seem bad without the Pringles logo printed. It’s good and attractive right.
