Taste Experience of Cavin’s Vanilla Milkshake

The pack is designed to drink with a straw. The milkshake present inside can’t be seen since the pack is not transparent. To say it properly, I am opening the pack. On opening the pack, aroma  won’t be sensed  from the pack. When it is poured into the glass jar, the slight vanilla aroma is sensed. The vanilla aroma feels like the vanilla ice-cream sense and it makes me consume the treat quickly.

I am pouring the milkshake in a glass for better visualization. The treat looks like raw milk with light brown colored liquid. No other solid ingredients is observed. It looks clean and uniform.

On touching, the milk gives the raw milk consistency and  little sticky feel.

At the first sip, I feel the taste of caramel with vanilla. I haven't tried this new kind of milkshake before and it gives a more sweet feel when it touches our tongue. The sweetness quickly comes into our mouth and becomes  sweeter. The treat feels like a consistency of milk while sensing in the mouth.

Thick and fullness mouthfeel is observed. The overall taste doesn’t stay longer in mouth but only the vanilla taste stays for a few seconds in tongue and it is sensed in throat.

Special Design Fact

A straw is given to drink the milkshake and it is attached at one of the sides. A hole is found  on top of the pack to hold the straw well. The straw has a bending neck which allows the consumer to move the straw easily while drinking. After consuming the milkshake, push the straw into the pack. Then throw the pack into the dustbin.

Cavin’s Vanilla Milkshake’s Packaging

The recycle number is not mentioned on the pack which denotes the material used for packaging. But, this packaging is tetra packaging.
What is a tetra pack?
It’s a pack that is made up of 6 layers primarily paper, paperboard, polyethylene and aluminum. These materials are layered together using heat and pressure to form a six-layer pack. Which protects the contents from light, oxygen, air, dirt, moisture and it maintains the shelf life of the product.
Six layers of a Tetra pack (from inside to outside layer)
1.First layer (polyethylene) seals the liquid on inside
2.Second layer (polyethylene) Adhesion layer
3. Third layer (Aluminum foil) oxygen, flavor and light barrier
4. Forth layer (polyethylene) Adhesion layer
5. Fifth layer (paper) stability and strength
6. Sixth layer (polyethylene) Protect against outside moisture.

The company illustrated a man throwing the pack into the dustbin; It conveys that after consuming the treat, an empty pack should be thrown into the dustbin.

Claims on Cavin’s Vanilla Milkshake

89 % Milk, no water added
Why is the ingredients list so big? What comes under the other 11 percent?
Yes, you guessed it right, it’s  sugar which is present about 10.6 % and the remaining 0.4 % makes up to the additives. We know that additives are ingredients that are used to make a better quality milkshake with more shelf life, mouthfeel and consistency.

Source of Calcium, Minerals & Proteins
Yes, the Cavin’s Milkshake is a source of Calcium, mineral & proteins.
A product can be called a source of protein if it contains 5 % of  RDA in 100 ml.
Cavin’s milkshake contains about 3.2 g of protein in 100 ml, which is about 5.3 % of the Recommended Dietary Allowance. (RDA for men sedentary).[2]
And about calcium and minerals, if they are present above 7.5 % of RDA they can be claimed that it is a source of calcium and other minerals.
100 ml of Cavin’s milkshake  contains calcium of about 107 mg which is 13.37 % & phosphorus is  about 96 mg which is 16 %. So, Cavin’s Vanilla Milkshake can be called as source of Calcium, Proteins and Minerals.

Processed with UHT technology
So, what does that mean?
The UHT means Ultra High Temperature processing which involves processing the milk in 135 degree Celsius and above for 2 to 5 seconds. Thus, the spores and other bacterial elements are destroyed and the product becomes sterile.
The UHT is a method of sterilizing (kills the microorganisms in the product) the milk, which makes it sterile (without microbes) and so it doesn’t get spoiled. as the UHT treated milk is directly packed into an aseptic container which is also in sterile (clean with no microorganisms) condition. Since the pack and product is sterile there is no chance of microbial invasion and thus it won’t get spoiled and gets the shelf life.

No added preservatives! Really? Then how does it have 270 days shelf life?
Yes, there is no added preservatives. But few additives mentioned here are categorized based on their main function. Even they acts as a preservative indirectly we cannot call it as preservative.. For example, Xanthan gum is added as Stabilizers but it can also act as a thickening agent and as an emulsifier as well.
Keeping  this in mind; the Sequestrant  also plays more like a preservative role. To be clear, this can act as a metal binder and as well  as a preservative and inhibit microbial growth as well. Since there are no preservatives added separately this can be called as preservative free.
Moreover the milkshake is UHT treated and the packing is done in aseptic condition and  has more shelf life as it cannot be spoiled by  microbes.

Other Breakdowns in Cavin’s Vanilla Milkshake

The milkshake feels like a little caramel flavour to it, how?
The reason for the caramel flavour is due to the presence of  sugar  in the Cavin’s milkshake. The sugar undergoes a caramelization process which gives nutty flavour and a slight brown colour, when subjected to the Ultra High Temperature processing. This is the reason the caramel flavour can be observed in a minimal amount when consuming the milkshake.

Why three Stabilisers added?
Yes, as we all know stabilisers are added to stabilise Cavin’s Milkshake emulsion. So why and how? The product has a shelf life of about 270 days; usually a product gets its fat and water content separated, when it is kept still for a longer time. Here milk contains water and fat emulsion, to keep the emulsion stabilised and not to get separated, three emulsifiers play its role to hold them stable and give the milkshake its best quality when consumed within its shelf life.
As you can see the three stabilisers can act in various temperatures perfectly Cavin’s Milkshake doesn’t require a refrigeration until it’s opened.
